Hockey - Screen explanation - Sticky

How does it work?
  • Starting/stopping the time: single press the start/stop button. Both clocks will start ticking, the center clock counts down, the bottom one counts up.
  • After the period has finished, the app will automatically switch to the next period.
  • Switch screens: turn the bezzel to the desired direction, or swipe in the desired direction if you have no bezzel.
  • Increase/decrease score: swipe up or down over the team you want to change the score for.
  • Change color label under the score: hold down the desired side for a few seconds.
  • Add a card: click either on the left or right '+' button, based on the team, and choose a card.
    • To include the player's number, touch the '#' at the top after pressing the '+' and enter the number.
Vibration patterns
  • Long double vibration: period has ended.
  • Medium single vibration: last two minutes of current period.
  • Medium triple vibration: suspension time finished.
  • Short single vibration: reminder every 10 seconds that the time is paused.
  • Long single vibration: warning that the time has paused.
Timer screen

The timer screen consists of a timer, a stopwatch, and the current daytime.

The timer and the stopwatch run simultaneously, where the timer works towards zero from the set target time, and the stopwatch works in the opposite direction, from zero unto the set target time. This time can be paused by single pressing the start/stop button, which will also reveal several options.

After the period has finished, the watch will vibrate.

In the setup-menu, you can set two break lengths for the field hockey version. The odd break length is for the 1st, 3rd, 5th, etc. break. The regular break length is for the 2nd, 4th, 6th, etc. break. This feature has been added to adapt to the 2019 regulations of the International Hockey Federation (FIH).

Score screen

During the game, another essential part to keep track of is the score. No worries, Sticky made that an easy job for you. The score screen is identical to the score screen in the soccer version.

Using swipe gestures, you can increase and decrease the score. By swiping over the left side of the screen, you'll change the home score. And, you might've guessed it, by swiping over the right side of the screen, you'll change the away score.

To distinct both teams, a colored label can be used which can be set corresponding to the clothes of the team. By pressing and holding the home or away score for a few seconds, a popup will appear which allows you to change the color.

Cards screen

The cards screen allows you to keep track of all the given cards, and the player's suspension time, together with the most important details.

There are two '+' buttons in the app, the left side is a card for the home team, and the right side is a card for the away team. In theory, just clicking either green, yellow, or red is enough to add the card. The current playing minute will automatically be added and displayed together with the team and the color of the card. A timer will be set for the suspension time and will tick along with the main timer.

If you want, you also have the possibility to save the player's number together with the card. By pressing the '#', at the top side of the screen while adding a card, a keyboard will appear, allowing you to enter the number of the player.

Match review

When ending the game, an overview of the match you've just umpired will be shown.

In this overview, you'll find the following data:

  • Type of match
  • Score
  • Duration
  • Given cards (including the player's number if set, the playing minute, the team, and the color)

If you need this data for later, you can save the match for as long as you like, and remove it when you don't need it anymore.

Advanced features

Although the app will vibrate every 10 seconds while the time is paused, you can also choose to adjust the background color to purple while the time isn't ticking. You can do so by going into the options menu and selecting the color palette icon. By tapping, you now can switch between a black and purple background while the time is paused.

If you prefer, the app can display minutes only, instead of both hours and minutes. You can change this setting by going into the options menu and choosing the clock icon. By tapping the center, you can now toggle between an hour-minute format and a minute-only format.

Soccer - Screen explanation - Sticky

How does it work?
  • Starting the main timer: single press the start/stop button.
  • Stopping the main timer: double press the start/stop button.
    • During a break-period, a single press is sufficient.
  • Starting/stopping the overtime timer: single press the start/stop button while main timer is ticking.
  • Go to the next period/break: stop the main timer, press 'Options' and then 'Next period'.
  • Switch screens: turn the bezzel to the desired direction, or swipe in the desired direction if you have no bezzel.
  • Increase/decrease score: swipe up or down over the team you want to change the score for.
  • Change color label under score: hold down the desired side for a few seconds.
  • Add a card: click either on the left or right '+' button, based on the team, and choose a card.
    • To include the player's number, touch the '#' at the top after pressing the '+' and enter the number.
Vibration patterns
  • Medium double vibration: regular time ended.
  • Long double vibration: regular + overtime ended.
  • Medium single vibration: last minute of regular time, also warning that the overtime is started/stopped.
    • During overtime, it notifies you that another minute has past.
  • Medium triple vibration: suspension time finished (indoor only).
  • Short single vibration: reminder every 10 seconds that the time is paused.
  • Long single vibration: warning that the time has paused.
Timer screen

The app uses two different timers, one acts as both a stopwatch and a timer for the main time, and the other one tracks the overtime.

To explain it a bit more: during the setup, you'll set the period and break length. Both clocks will begin at zero, and the timer will be set to the time remaining. After pressing the top button once, the match will start. Single clicking the button again will activate the second clock, which tracks the amount of time the play was delayed, because of injuries for example. The main timer can be stopped by pressing the top button twice. The watch will vibrate to warn you the time has stopped, and you now have the option to continue to the break, end the match, or whatever you want.

When you reach your set target, the watch will vibrate two times, shortly. This is to notify you that the target has been reached. If you've tracked overtime during the game, the watch will vibrate again, this time a bit more aggressively, when the overtime has been finished as well.

So for example, you start a soccer match with a period length of 45 minutes. During the game, you press the top button, wait 1 minute, and press the top button again. The 1 minute is now recorded by the second clock. As soon as the main timer hits 45 minutes, the watch will vibrate twice shortly. However, it won't stop automatically, that's your task. The timer will keep ticking, and as soon as it hits 46 minutes (period length + overtime), it'll vibrate again, a bit more aggressively.

Done with the match? Press the back button twice, go to options, and continue to the next period over there.

If you're running an indoor soccer match, a timer will be ticking next to the main timer, and will inform you after the suspension time has ended.

However, you also have the possibility to save the player's number together with the card. By pressing the '#', at the top side of the screen while adding a card, a keyboard will appear, allowing you to enter the number of the player.

Although you have the possibility to switch between an mm:ss and a hh:mm:ss format in the hockey version, in the soccer version this is not possible, due to a lack of space, because it needs to fit three clocks. This choice has been made because using a hh:mm:ss format is highly uncommon anyway in a soccer match.

Frequently asked questions

Here you can find the answers to the most frequently asked questions. Is your question not in this list? Feel free to contact us.

Why is my battery draining so quickly?

Due to restrictions in the Tizen operating system, we're unable to turn off the screen and guarantee that the timer will keep ticking in the background. Therefore, the screen is always on during the match, which will increase battery drain depending on your brightness. If you think the drainage is too high, please reduce the screen brightness of your watch.

Can ... be added as a sport?

We're constantly trying to improve the app, so this also includes adding more sports. Please try if one of the other sports that are already available, match your needs as an umpire. When you're missing certain features, please contact us here with the sport you're umpiring and the features you're missing.

Can you create the app for the Apple Watch / Android Wear as well?

Currently, there are some ideas to transfer the app to the Android Wear platform, but there are no specific plans to do so. It might appear in the near future. The prices to release an Apple Watch application are too high for a developer like me that's doing this for fun, so therefore the app won't become available for the Apple Watch, at least not in the near future.

Why can't I pause the time in the soccer version?

To completely pause the time during a soccer match, press the top button two times, fast. This will make the options button appear and give you the possibility to restart/skip to the next period. A single press will start/stop the injury time timer. During a break, there is no injury timer, therefore, a single press is sufficient to pause the main time.
